Culture for all with pay-what-you-can tickets
As a festival, the Thüringer Bachwochen aspire to present works by Johann Sebastian Bach to a broad audience. In order to make this possible for as many visitors as possible, the team around Oliver Wickel decided on an innovative pricing model for the event tickets.

ON BACH’S TRACKS WITH OLIVER
Finding a festival-compatible ticketing system was challenging for Oliver and his team. With many providers to choose from, nuances such as a fast ticket shop launch, an intelligent shopping basket, and an innovative pricing strategy ultimately made the difference. The pay-what-you-can pricing model from egocentric Systems’ ticketing solution shows how to make ticket sales inclusive at the Thüringer Bachwochen

Fast with a festival-suitable system
The Thüringer Bachwochen diverse program requires a ticketing system that can handle various event types and locations. The decision to switch to egocentric Systems was driven by the need for a festival-suited ticketing solution and a model that promotes trust and accessibility.
“The more you can do yourself, the more flexible you are. Especially when staff is unavailable […] you really appreciate the self-service option in the end,” emphasizes Oliver Wickel.
Thanks to the customization options within the white label ticket shop, the appearance can be tailored to different venues, including seating plans. Integration into the existing event website allows seamless display across devices, from smartphones to desktops, aligning with current user behavior.
More visitors with inclusive pricing
The Thüringer Bachwochen aim to make classical music accessible to a broad audience, regardless of whether they are classical music enthusiasts. This mission is challenging due to the need to attract a younger audience and rising prices in many areas of life.
One strategy to overcome this barrier is the pay-what-you-can function within the online ticket shop. This model allows attendees to choose their ticket price, helping the festival attract a wider audience beyond the typical target group.
Oliver describes the success of this pricing strategy: “It’s definitely something that works and is also very much based on trust. Trust in our audience. And yes, the trust has been confirmed.”

Better usability with shopping cart
The ability to buy different event tickets in one shopping basket was essential for the Thüringer Bachwochen. “Some ticketing systems don’t offer that either,” Oliver assures us. As a Ticketing Manager who has tested over 12 systems, he recognizes the importance of essential functions.
An intelligent shopping basket saves buyers time by allowing tickets for various festival events to be conveniently ordered and paid for in one checkout process. If the process is too complicated or time-consuming, buyers lose interest, and the festival loses valuable visitors. “We didn’t have a shopping basket for a very short time and then we realised what that meant in the end,” Oliver shares from his experience.
With a ticketing system designed for series of events, offering numerous customization options and enabling special offers (such as a special pricing model), the Thuringian Bach Festival has made its events more accessible. This ensures a larger and more diverse audience.
